ET 41 rims: precise positioning within the wheel arch

ET 41 rims have an offset of 41 millimetres. This figure describes how far the rim’s contact surface is from its imaginary centre line. The greater the positive offset, the further the wheel moves inwards towards the vehicle, assuming all other dimensions remain identical.

ET 41 is therefore a technical value that significantly influences how a rim sits within the wheel arch. Even a difference of just a few millimetres can affect the appearance, the track width and the clearances to chassis or brake components. For this reason, the offset should never be considered in isolation.

Interplay with rim width and vehicle specifications

Whether a rim with an ET of 41 actually fits depends primarily on the rim width and the vehicle-specific specifications. For example, a 7.5-inch-wide rim with an ET of 41 will be positioned differently from an 8.5-inch-wide version with the same ET value.

In addition, Bolt circle, centre bore, load capacity, rim diameter and tyre size are crucial. The shape of the spokes may also be relevant, as there must be sufficient space for larger brake calipers, particularly on high-performance vehicles. Depending on the model, there is a choice of classic five-spoke designs, sporty double-spoke designs or delicate multi-spoke wheels.

Alloy rims stand out above all for their wide variety of designs and finishes in silver, black, anthracite or a high-gloss finish. Steel rims, on the other hand, have a simpler design and are often used as a robust winter solution.

Manufacturers such as ALCAR, MW or Accuride offer steel wheels for numerous Vehicle types. For these manufacturers, practicality, durability and an affordable purchase price are usually more important than aesthetics.
