Sport tyres for motorcycles – sometimes also called supersport and hypersport tyres – are the ideal choice for bikers who not only use their tyres on the road, but also like to visit the racetrack sometimes. This demanding requirement profile means the best models have to be high-tech products.
What does a good sport tyre need to be able to do?
On the one hand, sport tyres have to get riders safely to their destination using public roads, even in rainy weather conditions. On the other hand, they need to demonstrate excellent performance characteristics on racetracks, even at high speeds. It's no wonder that only relatively few tyre producers take on this difficult balancing act. However, the fact that it is possible is proven by sport tyres from brands like Continental and Michelin, for example, that offer excellent wet grip in rainy weather on country roads and motorways, but also offer the stability required for the racetracks - along with an extra helping of fun!
How long do sport tyres last?
Experts advise sport tyres be changed when the tread falls below 2mm deep because by then, the ride characteristics will already have started to deteriorate. And that can play a decisive role at the relatively high speeds that sport tyres often have to withstand. It's difficult to make generalisations about mileage because the load can vary greatly. High-quality models, however, should be good for 4,000 to 6,000 kilometres.

Which tyre type do you require?
The selection of the tyre type depends first and foremost on the model of the motorcycle and the intended use.
Thus, motocross tyres are intended for off-road riding. There are, however, other difference that must also be considered in terms of the tread design - depending on how hard or soft the soil is.
Chopper and cruiser tyres, on the other hand, play to their strengths on long journeys. They are characterised not only by their excellent drive comfort, but also by an above-average running performance.
Enduro tyres are a compromise between the tyre types outlined above. They are certainly passable when off-road, but are also well-suited for road driving.
Racing tyres are most at home on the race track. Special material blends ensure that the tyres master even the highest of speeds.
Touring tyres, on the other hand, impress with a consistent drive behaviour on long journeys, and also maintain their level of performance in the rain.
Sport tyres are not just suitable for use on public roads. With these tyres, which are designed for a sporty driving style, you can also take in a few laps of the racetrack.
