Offset (ET) 26 rims: Identifying the correct offset

ET 26 rims have an offset of 26 millimetres. The offset describes the distance between the geometric centre of the rim and its contact surface on the wheel hub. With a positive value of 26 millimetres, this contact surface lies outside the centre of the rim.

Compared to a wheel with a greater offset, an ET 26 wheel sits further out in the wheel arch for the same width. Compared to a wheel with a lower offset value, it sits correspondingly further in. Consequently, the offset affects both the vehicle’s appearance and the clearance to the bodywork, chassis and braking system.

Vehicle compatibility and technical specifications

Whether a rim with an ET of 26 is suitable for a particular vehicle does not depend solely on the offset. Equally important are rim width, rim diameter, bolt circle, centre bore, load capacity and tyre size.

If the combination is unsuitable, the wheel may protrude too far outwards or collide with chassis or brake components on the inside. There must also be sufficient clearance when the suspension is fully compressed and when the front wheels are turned in. The vehicle documents, as well as the ABE, ECE approval or the parts certificate for the respective rim, are therefore decisive.

Alloy wheels offer a wide range of design options and are available in classic five-spoke, sporty double-spoke or delicate multi-spoke designs.
