The function of rim protection strips
A rim protection strip on tyres is a specially developed, reinforced rubber strip that is integrated into the sidewall of the tyre and serves to protect the rim from damage. This strip sits on the outer edge of the tyre and forms a buffer zone between the rim and the road or kerb. Particularly in city traffic, where narrow parking spaces or kerbs often pose a danger to rims, the rim protection strip offers effective protection and prevents expensive damage to the rim.
Tyres with rim protection strips have been specially developed for use on vehicles whose drivers value a neat appearance or frequently drive in tight urban spaces. These tyres are particularly popular with premium and sports vehicles, as they offer aesthetic benefits as well as protection and also accentuate the rim. The reinforced sidewall and the rim protection strip also offer a certain stability when driving and protect the tyre even under lateral loads.
Tyre models with rim protection strip
Common tyre models with a rim protection strip are the Continental PremiumContact 6, which not only offers excellent driving characteristics but also effective rim protection. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is also equipped with a rim protection strip and offers solid protection against damage, especially for sporty drivers. Another model is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, which scores with excellent grip and high stability and has an integrated rim protection strip.
Overall, tyres with rim protection strips offer a practical advantage for drivers who value the durability and aesthetics of their rims and want to optimally protect their vehicles both visually and functionally.
