Motor oil with viscosity 20W-50

Engine oil with a viscosity of 20W-50 is a particularly thick lubricant that has been developed for engines that are operated under extreme conditions or that require a higher tolerance to heat. The viscosity of an engine oil describes how thick or thin the oil is at different temperatures. The first number, ‘20W’, stands for the fluidity of the oil at cold temperatures, where ‘W’ stands for winter. A value of 20W indicates that the oil is relatively thick at low temperatures, which means that it flows more slowly through the engine in cold conditions. Therefore, 20W-50 is less suitable for extremely cold climates, but still provides sufficient protection when starting the engine in moderate to warm environments.

The second number, ‘50’, refers to the viscosity at operating temperature. A value of 50 means that the oil remains viscous at high temperatures, which protects the engine from wear, especially under extreme conditions such as high loads or high temperatures.

20W-50 engine oil is often used in older engines, motorbikes, high-performance engines and in vehicles operating in hot climates. It is particularly suitable for engines with larger tolerances or for vehicles operating under severe conditions. Manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson and some older models of Ford and General Motors often recommend 20W-50 to ensure that the engine is adequately protected in these conditions. This oil provides excellent lubrication and protection for engines that require more tolerance and thicker layers of oil.
