ET 49 rims: high Offset for a compact wheel position

ET 49 rims have an offset of 49 millimetres. This value indicates how far the rim’s mounting surface is offset from its geometric centre. With a positive offset of 49 millimetres, the wheel sits comparatively far inside the wheel arch, even with the same rim width.

This design is often found on vehicles whose suspension and bodywork are tailored to a relatively compact wheel position. This is precisely why it is important not to focus solely on the ET value. Even a difference of just a few millimetres can alter the position of the wheel and affect clearances to the chassis, brakes and mudguards.

ET 49 in conjunction with other rim specifications

Whether a rim with an ET of 49 may actually be fitted depends on several technical parameters. These include, amongst others, rim width, diameter, Bolt circle, centre bore, load capacity and Tyre size.

Particularly with wider rims, there must be sufficient clearance on the inside between the rim and the suspension struts and other suspension components. At the same time, the wheel must not come into contact with the bodywork on the outside. The shape of the spokes also plays a role, as large brake calipers may require additional clearance. The relevant vehicle approvals and authorisation documents are therefore always decisive.

Alloy rims with ET 49

In the field of alloy rims, ET 49 is primarily found in vehicle-specific applications and near-standard retrofit solutions. Manufacturers such as Ronal, Borbet, CMS, Dezent, Autec and Alutec offer numerous rims with offsets in this range.

Visually, the offer extends from simple five-spoke wheels to sporty double-spoke and delicate multi-spoke designs. Common finishes include silver, black, anthracite or high-gloss variants.

Steel rims with ET 49

Steel rims are also available with ET 49. They are frequently used as functional winter or spare wheels and are characterised by a robust, practical construction.
