ET 47 rims: wheel position tends to be set further in

ET 47 rims have an offset of 47 millimetres. The ET value describes how far the contact surface of the rim is from its geometric centre. With a positive Offset such as ET 47, this surface is located relatively far out on the rim, meaning that, for the same width, the wheel sits comparatively far inside the wheel arch.

This can be an advantage on modern vehicles where space in the area of the mudguard is limited. At the same time, the rim must not come too close to the strut, chassis components or brake caliper on the inside. The offset is therefore always part of a larger overall technical package.

Rim width and ET 47 must be compatible

The interplay between rim width and offset is particularly important. A 7-inch rim with an offset of 47 requires significantly less lateral space than a 9-inch rim with the same offset value. For this reason, it is not possible to make a reliable assessment of vehicle compatibility based on the offset alone.

In addition, the Bolt circle, centre bore, rim diameter, load capacity and tyre size must be taken into account. The shape of the rim spokes can also be a decisive factor if large brake calipers are fitted. The relevant approval documents and vehicle-specific specifications are always decisive.

Alloy rims with ET 47

For alloy rims, an ET of 47 is primarily found on vehicle-specific rims and certain standard replacement or retrofit solutions. Manufacturers such as Ronal, Borbet, CMS, Dezent, Autec and Alutec offer rims with various Offsets within this range.

The offer includes understated five-spoke rims, elegant multi-spoke designs and sportier double-spoke styles. Colours range from silver and black to anthracite and high-gloss finished surfaces.

Steel rims as a robust alternative

Steel rims are also available with an ET of 47. They are frequently used as winter wheels or as a practical replacement solution and are generally more simply designed than alloy wheels.
