Chrome rims in Winter

When chrome is exposed to wet salt, the salt crystals that form on the surface dissolve the chrome from the finish. This eventually causes it to flake off. This can cause corrosion to attack the metal surface of the wheel, which would destroy the chrome finish within a few years. If your Rims are chipping, be very careful when handling them as the edges could be sharp by now. Tip: By sealing your chrome rims before fitting them in spring, you can protect their shine against the effects of the weather.

How is a Rim chrome-plated?

The layers adhere to each other and increase the durability of the finish. The chrome rim is then finished - no protective clear coat is applied to the chrome. As chrome rims do not have a clear coat, you should clean them regularly and carefully with soap and water during car care and apply an impregnating metal polish. Special rim cleaners can also help you with car care. However, make sure that they are compatible with chrome rims.
